WHY NKYVC?
I attended high school in the early 70s when the only “real sport” for girls was cheerleading! Although my high school had volleyball and basketball, practices were limited and skills were very antiquated. I attended college and earned a Physical Education degree with a goal of making things better for those who came after me. Upon graduation I taught and coached at St. Henry High School for 12 years. During my tenure, I coached volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and track & field for boys and girls. I was also Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. In 1981 my volleyball team won the state championship! When my husband and I started a family I chose to be a stay-at- home mom and I will never regret that decision. Through the years I have had various part time jobs but none that interfere with my family. In 1998 I was approached to start a volleyball club for the new Silverlake Recreational center. My schedule would allow me to take care of the business end of the club and Kathy Kennedy agreed to help with the coaching end. We started the club in 1999 and have been moving forward ever since! Having achieved many awards over the years and sending many athletes to college on scholarships, the thing that brings the most pleasure is to see former students and athletes taking an active role with their families and community and becoming the individuals they set out to be.
Being director of NKYVC enables me to continue to be a part of the sport that I truly enjoy and still be home with my family most of the time. As Director, I oversee the complete operation of the club and have surrounded myself with great people who are very qualified and serve as excellent role models for the young men and women in the club. NKYVC is a no-nonsense club that teaches fundamentals to athletes of all skills and ages and provides an opportunity for every individual to learn the sport of volleyball. I continue to coach high school boys’ volleyball and am a high school volleyball official.
